The Short Answer

GLP-1s are approved for type 2 diabetes and weight loss, not type 1. Some endocrinologists use them off-label in type 1 for weight and insulin needs, with close monitoring. It is not something to start through a weight-loss program alone.

The Risks

Hypoglycemia when insulin is not adjusted, and a rare but serious risk of diabetic ketoacidosis if insulin is cut too far. Both need an endocrinologist watching.

What We Do

If you have type 1 diabetes, we will not prescribe a GLP-1 without your endocrinologist's written agreement and plan. We are happy to coordinate and to draw labs at home.
