When the Standard Pregnancy Drip Is Not Enough
There is a point where nausea stops being an inconvenience. You cannot keep water down for a full day. You have lost weight. You have already been to urgent care or the ER for fluids once, maybe more than once. That is a different problem than morning sickness, and it needs a different protocol.
This drip is built for that. It uses the same Lactated Ringer's base as our standard pregnancy drip, with higher doses of magnesium and zinc, plus a third medication option in the protocol. Everything is delivered by IV, so your stomach is not asked to hold anything down first.
At Zen IV Spa, a licensed registered nurse comes to your home anywhere in the New York City area and administers the drip in about 30 to 45 minutes. You stay in your own bed the entire time.
The Hyperemesis Gravidarum IV is $399 and requires approval from our medical provider before your visit is confirmed. It is meant to work alongside your OB or midwife, not in place of them.
When the Hyperemesis Gravidarum IV Makes Sense
If your nausea is uncomfortable but you can still keep some fluids down, the Morning Sickness IV at $349 is the better starting point. This drip is for the harder end of the spectrum.
You have been vomiting several times a day for more than a couple of days. Not once in the morning. Repeatedly, and it is not letting up.
You cannot keep water down. When plain water comes back up, sipping your way out of it stops being realistic.
You have lost weight since the pregnancy started. Weight loss in early pregnancy is one of the markers that separates hyperemesis from typical morning sickness.
Your OB has used the words hyperemesis gravidarum with you. If it is already in your chart, this is the protocol built for it.

Lactated Ringer 's
The base of the drip. Lactated Ringer's is a sterile fluid that replaces water and electrolytes at the same time, which is why hospitals reach for it when someone is dehydrated. It absorbs straight into your bloodstream, so your stomach never has to do the work.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that supports immune function, collagen production, and overall cellular health. It is one of the most requested ingredients on our menu, especially during cold and flu season.
Glutathione
Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant. It plays a key role in detoxification, immune function, and protecting your cells from oxidative stress. It is one of the most popular wellness ingredients in NYC for healthy aging, skin clarity, and overall cellular support.
Zinc

A provider approved antihistamine that may help with nausea and rest. It can make you drowsy, so plan to stay put afterward and do not drive. Added only when a medical provider finds it clinically appropriate for you.
Anti-Acid Medication
A provider approved medication that may help settle acid, heartburn, and an upset stomach. Added only when a medical provider finds it clinically appropriate for you.
Prescription support requires clinical indication and provider approval. You may not receive all three. Your nurse will explain anything that is added and why.
Optional upgrades: an additional liter of fluids if clinically eligible, the Sunshine Shot (vitamin D3), and the Beauty Shot (biotin). A vitals check is required before any additional liter.

Both pregnancy drips start from the same liter of Lactated Ringer's. The difference is dosing and how many medication options the protocol allows. Is the Hyperemesis Gravidarum IV Safe?
IV fluids are used routinely in pregnancy care for dehydration, and hyperemesis is one of the most common reasons for it. The medications in this protocol are given only when our medical provider judges them clinically appropriate for your situation, weighing your history. That review happens before your visit is confirmed.
Side effects are uncommon but can include a warm sensation during the drip, especially when magnesium runs in quickly, a slight metallic taste, mild bruising at the IV site, and rarely lightheadedness. If the antihistamine is part of your plan it can make you drowsy, so plan to rest afterward and do not drive. Your nurse adjusts the drip rate to keep you comfortable and stays with you throughout.
Tell your OB or midwife that you are using at home IV hydration. If you are being followed for hyperemesis, how often you need fluids is real clinical information and it belongs in your chart.
SAFETY CALLOUT: Hyperemesis gravidarum can become a medical emergency. IV therapy at home is not a substitute for prenatal care or emergency care. Go to the emergency room or call your OB right away if you have belly pain, bleeding, fever, a bad headache, changes in your vision, confusion, a racing heart that will not settle, almost no urine, or you have not kept fluids down for more than 24 hours. If your nurse thinks you need a higher level of care, she will tell you plainly and help you get there.
Who Should Not Book the Hyperemesis Gravidarum IV

Frequently Asked Questions
What is hyperemesis gravidarum?+
It is severe, ongoing nausea and vomiting in pregnancy that goes well past typical morning sickness. It often causes dehydration and weight loss. It affects a small share of pregnancies and usually needs real medical support, including IV fluids.
Can hyperemesis be treated at home?+
At home IV hydration can help you avoid repeat ER trips for fluids, and many clients use it that way between OB visits. It is not a replacement for your OB. If you are getting worse, losing weight, or cannot keep anything down at all, you need to be seen in person.
How is this different from the $349 pregnancy drip?+

Will the medication make me sleepy?+
The antihistamine can, if it is part of your plan. Plan to rest afterward and do not drive. Tell your nurse if you need to stay alert so it can be raised with the provider.
How often can I get this?+
Some clients need fluids more than once a week through the worst stretch. Our medical provider can help set a schedule, and your OB should be part of that conversation.
Do I need clearance from my OB?+
We do not require a written note, but we do ask who is managing your pregnancy and what they have told you. If you have a complication under active management, we may ask for clearance before confirming.
How long does the appointment take?+
About 30 to 45 minutes from the time your nurse arrives. Add time if you choose an additional liter of fluids, since that includes another vitals check.
Is this the same as hospital treatment?+
The fluid base is similar, but the scope is not. A hospital can run labs, check your electrolytes, monitor the pregnancy, and admit you if needed. We bring hydration, nutrients, and provider approved medication support to your home. If you need the hospital, go to the hospital.
Does it include NAD+?+
No. We do not offer NAD+ during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it cannot be added to this drip.
Will this stop the vomiting?+
We will not promise that. What the drip reliably does is replace fluid and electrolytes you have lost. Many clients also get meaningful relief from the medication protocol, but response varies and anyone guaranteeing a result should worry you.
Is it safe for the baby?+
